What is Hydroculture?

Hydroculture is a method of growing plants without the use of soil.  This method of growing is sometimes referred to as ‘passive hydroponics’. Plants are supported in expanded clay pellets or specially developed ceramic stone. The wicking action of the growing media supplies the plants roots with moisture and minerals. There are several advantages to houseplants grown in hydroculture.  In comparison to soil-grown plants, there is no messy transplanting every year, and because the roots are more exposed the plants are more efficient at removing airborne toxins. The growing media does not harbor mold, bacteria or bugs and the growing media is inert and odorless. Hydroculture growing can help remove  odors and allergy causing dust and dander from the air as well, making it a viable option for allergy sufferers.
